The Freemealin' Demis CousCous (2008)

This was the second complete Demis CousCous album. This time there was no competent electric guitarist on board, so i had to do it all myself. Most of the drums were once again provided by Pidge Pidgeon, although a few tracks feature myself on drums (Paper and Glue, Rebecca, How Much Is Enough? and Je M'abuse).

Also featured in a guest spot on this one is Divad Nyarb of The Mackerelheads who provides vocals and guitar work on Come and Go. With hindsight, this album is a bit of a mixed bag. There are songs on here that I really like, but overall the atmosphere is patchy and sounds a bit thrown together, which to be fair it was. The songs were recorded over a 9 month period and perhaps would have been more effective as a few thematically linked EP's rather than an overlong and perhaps slightly inpenetrable 15 track album.

Still, opening track Goodbye is one of my favourate songs. there's a heavy French influence this time around. I was listening to a lot of Serge Gainsbourg and France Gall. A few of their melodies found their way in...

The cover star is Thomas. He belongs to my neighbours, but he doesn't like them very much. He spends most of his time at my house lashing out at everyone except me. Don't know why, I don't even feed him.

The title is a play on The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan inspired by all the free meals I receive from my good friends, especially in times of trouble, and trouble is never far away.
